First it was our schools and parking meters, next it was our post offices, tomorrow it will be our libraries and water supplies.
Is privatization in the public interest or is it strictly money driven? Can we trust the bankers and finance experts who have destroyed our economy with their fraud, criminal activities and corruption of the political system?
Tom Tresser of Protect our Public Assets
Flo Estes of the Evanston Community-Labor Alliance
Tom and Florence will discuss how to thwart the ongoing Chicagoland privatization efforts. Tom will lay out the background behind the rush to privatization (remember the parking meter deal?) and propose several actions to stop the rush to pawn our public assets and eviscerate public services. Flo will describe how labor and the community are successfully fighting privatization in the city of Evanston. There will be ample time for public comments and questions.
Tom Tresser (
www.treser.com/) was the Green Party candidate for Cook County Board President in 2010. In 2009 he was an organizer for No Games Chicago and fought the bid for the 2016 Olympics because it would've privatized and bankrupted the entire city of Chicago. In 2008 he co-founded Protect Our Parks which successfully opposed the privatization of Lincoln Park. He is working to stop privatization and promote a public bank for Illinois. Information:
