January Update from the Editor, Help

January 19, 2012. Chicago. In case you didn’t notice, Whiteout Press hasn’t been able to publish any articles over the past three days. As I mentioned a couple months ago, our ancient, obsolete desktop computer is on its last legs. It was old and outdated when I bought it used 3 years ago and it’s even worse now. With Whiteout Press being basically a one-man operation, and that one man being a poor single dad with little or no income and two kids, a new computer is just unfortunately unattainable at this time.

OpEd News - Investigative Journalist Who Blew Whistle on CT Cops Looks at Occupy Movement from Exile in Sweden

We've all seen the recent images of the police brutality against Occupy, but this conduct hasn't suddenly occurred 'overnight'. For years, US police abuse has been spiralling upwards, this article providing a uniquely insightful vision of what that's meant, how it's occurred, and the efforts of one man to wake America to the disturbing reality it today faces.

Rwanda: Please go quietly off to jail, Victoire Ingabire

On October 22nd, in the Netherlands, supporters of Rwandan opposition leader Victoire Ingabire gathered to celebrate her 43rd birthday. Next week in Brussels, Belgium, they will gather to protest the injustice of her arrest and ongoing trial in Kigali, Rwanda. Ingabire has been in jail for over a year and her trial continues with almost no attention from the international press, even though she is on trial, most of all, for challenging the received history of the Rwanda Genocide. Rwanda Genocide survivor Aimable Mugara explains what a travesty of justice this trial is.

The Scoop on Cafe Chicago

It’s time for a different economic model, one that values human beings and our longing for freedom and for justice and community. We need alternatives that don’t find us hiding our heads in the sand, but that continue to challenge those forces hell-bent on destroying our city, our planet, and our lives. It's time for a different model of making a living, of funding social change whether radical or revolutionary or alternative-building. It’s time for new models of social interaction that prize each and every voice, and that build community and resistance. Cafe Chicago is one such model.

Occupy Wall Street - Day 12

September 28, 2011. New York. There’s a revolution going on in America and the mainstream news media is making a globally embarrassing attempt to completely black out the story. You haven’t heard about it? You will, today. Fortunately for this column, your author’s publisher – Examiner.com – is a pretty big supporter of freedom of the press.

With hundreds of videos circulating the globe of undisciplined New York police officers beating countless peaceful protestors, almost all of them women and young girls, the American media can’t keep it bottled up any longer. The UK’s Guardian, the UK’s Daily News and thousands of other news outlets across the globe are reporting on the widespread protests and demonstrations going on across America. The only country refusing to broadcast the actual events – the United States.

Commentary :: Civil & Human Rights : Crime & Police : Drugs

Drug "laws" not laws at all

We are under a “government of laws”, not a “government of men”. But if someone can plant drugs among your belongings, and if you are then required to prove that the drugs are not yours (which you can't), then you are under a government of men, namely of those who are willing to plant evidence. Therefore the reverse onus of proof cannot be valid in any jurisdiction.

Ingabire on Trial, Kagame in France, Obama for Kagame Immunity in the U.S.

Victoire Ingabire’s trial will resume in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday, where Ingabire is expected to testify in her own defense. Ingabire is on trial for terrorism and genocide ideology, which, in her case, means refusing to deny that Rwandan Hutus as well as Tutsis, died in ethnic violence before, during, and after the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. As Ingabire prepares to testify, Rwandan President Paul Kagame is on his way to France in response to the invitation of French President Nicholas Sarkozy, and, President Obama has requested immunity for Kagame, as a head of state, in the civil lawsuit, Habyarimana v. Kagame, which alleges Kagame and his officers’ guilt in the Rwanda Genocide and Congo Wars, and demands damages for the widows of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana and Burundian President Cyprien Ntaryamira.
