Hundreds of protesters gathered in Chicago's Daley Plaza on April 29, 2011 to demand an end to the oppression of the people of Bahrain "at the hands of the Bahraini military and the security forces provided by other states of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)." The action was heavily attended by representatives from Chicago area Muslim communities. "As Americans and Muslims, we expect our government to make clear to its allies that democracy and the civil rights of their citizens must be upheld", their statement read.
"The United States gives [the Bahraini monarchy] political cover and legitimacy," said Sulayman Hassan, Religious Director of the Bait Ul Ilm Mosque in Streamwood, IL. And "it's our technology and our money that's being used to round up human rights activists and average citizens who are protesting for their rights." Length - 1:55
