Valentine's Day Public Hearing for Clean Power and Air

Have a heart -- support clean power and air!
ACTION ALERT!
Make plans to attend public hearing on the
Chicago Clean Power Ordinance

Monday, February 14, 2011; 10 a.m. to noon
City Council Chambers, City Hall Chicago
121 N. LaSalle Street, Chicago

Dear Chicago,

Almost two whole years of "Carbon Free/Nuclear Free" work will be put on the line at the upcoming City Council hearing on the Chicago Clean Power Ordinance.

This Ordinance, sponsored by Ald. Joe Moore (49th), and co-sponsored by 16 others, will be given a hearing on Valentines Day. If passed it will clean up emissions from the two, nearly 100-year old coal-fired power plants in Chicago -- Fisk in Pilsen, and Crawford in Little Village. These plants have been pummeling people's health and the environment in these and other Chicago neighborhoods for decades. Their electricity is sold to Ohio and Pennsylvania; the pollution and health effects stay in Pilsen and Little Village. Here's a chance to stop the pollution and abuse.

Mayor Daley and his aldermanic supporters have not been favorable towards the Ordinance. This can only change if we pack the Council Chambers with hundreds of people!

A "green city" can't have "black lungs" -- and the Mayor's lack of support so far is the big black tar stain on his supposed "green legacy."

Let your voice be heard. Come to the hearing. Sign up to testify (2 minute limit) at:

This is what personal days are for at work -- YOUR business. And, this Ordinance is YOUR personal business.

Look forward to seeing you on the 14th -- Valentine's Day -- at City Hall. In the meantime, call your Alderperson, and ask him/her to "have a heart" and become a co-sponsor of the Ordinance. Thousands of asthma patients will be grateful you did.
