Frida Berrigan Speaks out About the Cost of War
This year's Midwest Catholic Worker Resistance Retreat is at San Miguel Parish Social Center in Chicago where this morning, Frida Berrigan spoke about the costs of militarism and work on her upcoming book titled: Dreams of a Nation: Cutting the Military Budget in Half & Doubling National Security. In her talk, she posed 5 ways the current 800 billion dollar "defense" budget could be cut by 50%.
Frida Berrigan is a columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus and a conributing editor of In These Times magazine. She is the author of reports on arms trade and human rights, U.S. nuclear weapons policy, and the domestic politics of U.S. missle defense and space weapons policies. She has been a featured expert on national and regional radio outlets, and regularly speaks on national security issues to citizen's organizations and at major conferences throughout the United States. Berrigan is active in the War Resisters League, and sits on their National Committee. Until recently, she was the Senior Program Associate of the Arms and Security Initiative at the New American Foundation.
