‘Don’t ruin my Sunday.’
The response from most passersby was cool. These are tourists coming in from the suburbs or other cities and countries. Perhaps they don’t want their beautiful Sunday ‘ruined’ by the topic of the vigil. Most refused the flyer held out to them. I talked with one of the vigilers about this; he still thought this was the appropriate place to be. 'These are more affluent people, who ought to know about the occupation.' Still, my cynicism was fanned by the cool response. I did not see altercations or arguments, but most people clearly did not want to be bothered.

Later, walking a short distance down Michigan Avenue, I over heard a woman speaking with her friend. “They had an Israeli rabbi come to their house. But his story is so one-sided, you don’t know which parts to believe.” This was a hopeful reminder of the multidimensionality of most people.
