URGENT--City Files Emergency Motion to Quash Permit for Peace/Immigrant Rights March
PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY
A few hours ago I received notice that the City of Chicago is appealing the decision of its own Administrative Law Officer who last week ruled in favor of peace/immigrant rights activists.
Specifically, last Wednesday the Administrative Law Officer said that since the City broke its obligations under the permit ordinance, the City was obligated to issue a permit to us conforming exactly to how we applied for it.
The Empire Strikes Back
On Friday, however, the City apparently filed its "Complaint for Administrative Review." Conveniently, it saw fit service us only by "snail mail" on that do, and only do fax and in-person service of it today -- echoes of its dirty tricks throughout this whole process. It filed a "Notice of Emergency Motion" today, calling us into court at 2 PM tomorrow.
I have been consulting with National Lawyers Guild attorneys about what legal measures we should take, but regardless what we do, we urgently need your help.
Here is what you can do:
If you can make the time to attend this hearing -- 2 PM at Courtroom 1107 of the Daley Center (50 W. Washington Street) -- that would be very, very helpful.
The City is playing very, very nasty right now. And I, for one, am in no mood to roll over for them. Please join me at this hearing tomorrow.
