More pics of tonight's protest for Palestinian Freedom
This was one of the best protests I've been at in a while, especially when you consider that folks came out on one of the most bitterly cold nights of the year. People clearly took inspiration from the massive direct action of the people of Gaza, whose breaking down the wall and bursting over the border was aptly described by one speaker as "the biggest prison break in history."
Tens of thousands poured over the border to seek basic necessities denied them by the Israeli / Egyptian blockade, and for several days there was nothing the Egyptian authorities could do about it. When their political leaders failed them (as Fatah collaborated in the blockade), the Palestinian people once again demonstrated true leadership as they have in the intifadas.
Good lesson to remember in this Presidential election year.

I suspect this post was a follow up to the initial report, which you apparently skipped over.
No photos of the counterprotesters, but they were vastly outnumbered. [ chicago.indymedia.org/newswire/display/81163/index.php }
Where were you, Makhno?

The palestinians were offered a state at Annapolis- lets see what they do with it. If they create a state of equality for men and women, that welcomes all minorities and all religions, that would be truly welcome. Yet i'm not optimistic.

Congrats to all who turned out in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

Try and spin it anyway you like, it was a bust. Hasbara won't cut it this time. And the pro IDF counterprotesters and their PW cohorts -- all half dozen - were truly laughable.

Both. Police presence was relatively light, no robocops, the command staff on the scene were fairly reasonable, negotiating with the organizers to insure a public means of egress( half the sidewalk) although they admitted to being surprised at the turnout. No arrests.
Incidentally, video of the action should be available soon.
