Counterprotest Decries Israeli Racism, Brutality
The Jewish United Fund held a lunchtime pro-war rally on Monday, and local peace activists gathered in opposition -- where they mounted a spirited, vocal counterpicket to oppose Israeli brutality against the Palestinian and Lebanese people.

In New York, a similar rally of several thousand (NYT) was held across the street from UN headquarters and sponsored by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and Jewish Community Relations Council of NYC. Promotion for this rally included a 1/2 page ad in the NYT. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) was among the keynote speakers and gave a rousing endorsement of the Israeli war effort.
Politicians on the JUF stage at Federal Plaza in Chicago included Republican Congressman and neocon darling Mark Kirk; Illinois Attorney General and Democrat Lisa Madigan; State Treasurer and Republican candidate for Governor, Judy Baar Topinka; and State Senators Jeff Schoenberg and Ira Silverstein.
Arab-American and Muslim groups meeting to discuss a mass community initiated rally in the near future. Details to follow.

Two people were reportedly arrested or detained, one was hrefBetty who wrote a report on Indymedia of her experience, and another was a Zionist who threw a water bottle at an older ANSWER activist from across the street.
We caught two local nightly news broadcasts, FOX News and WGN, the one-hour 9pm shows. WGN, as is characteristic, gave the whole ordeal very little time, while FOX extended it. Our quotes were much stronger on FOX, and in both and other local network broadcasts, all audio from the JUF stage was largely drowned out by the sound of the pro-Palestine protesters and our mega-phone.

Our final two pictures are of just two of the many Zionists who not only ventured to our side, but had the chutzpah to play it confrontational while photographing us. There were others, (and of course we infiltrated their side, so all is fair) but these guys were especially hyped up on the scream and shout bug.
