More photos still

let me phrase this correctly....this is not a complaint...but rather a comment re: these and most photos that I've seen of the demo...artistically they're great...but politically they're not (tho these are better than most, in that regard).
I was there, and that crowd was huge, that crowd was massive. And the photos in both the mainline and alternative press are always of individuals...and never gives a picture of the sheer mass of humanity that was there. It's like being in a vast forest, and taking pictures only of individual trees....you never get a sense of the thousands and thousands (and thousands and thousands) of people who were there...from these and other pix's it could have been a demo of only a hundred...rather than the hundreds of thousands of people who were there.
Someone should go up on the planter, climb the light pole, go to the 2nd story and get the pixs that show the crowd as a whole, and capture how how massive the event really was...or it will never get recorded, and it will never be known....it's like the articles that say "more than a thousand at the demonstration"...not a lie..but not the truth.... Again, I'm talking about the politics, and not the art of these (and other) photos (they're great).
Politically, these and the other photo's that I've seen are not lies...but they don't capture the real size of the demonstration (and in that regard, they're not the truth).

So why are there so few massive crowd shots? One reason may be that to really capture the scope of a demos this massive requires photogs to get well above the crowd - say by helicopter, which is what many of the corporate press outlets did on Saturday in DC. As for climbing up a local street light post or tree along the march route, the DC Metro police in DC made a point of discouraging that - although some photogs tried. Hopefully we'll see more crowd pan shots that will underscore just how large this action was.

Thanks to Chris for her first batch of pics - and hope to see more from other Chicagoans who marched on S24. The more the merrier.

I too was there, am working on my twenty rolls of film. I'll see how my 'massive crowd shots' turned out. Light posts just weren't high enough and I could find few opportunities aside from being at the bottom of one of the streets that was angled downward.

Anyway, it was incredible, a lot of people.

hey man, I just want to clarify that I'm not complaining about any of these fine photos...hey, I should have brought my own camera...but it just that if one doesn't get the impression of just how huge that crowd was....well, one just doesn't get the impression.
...And again: it's not the art of these pix's, which is great...
It's the politics.

Watched corporate media coverage and it was, well, pathetic. They downplayed the march A LOT. Great to see the massive turnout, the diverse crowd, and the messages displayed. Thanks.

Very true about the overall crowd photos. I found the best one of DC, San Francisco, La, and London.
