Labor activists oppose Federal NED/AFL-CIO funds that hurt unions, democracy

On Sunday, labor activists gathered on the hottest day on record at Chicago's Navy Pier -- the site of the AFL-CIO convention -- to oppose the government-funded National Endowment for Democracy, which has been implicated in a range of foreign policy atrocities, from supporting a failed coup in Venezuela to bankrolling company unions. The U.S. federal government provides over 90% of the funds to the AFL-CIO's Solidarity Center -- and activists want that parasitic relationship to end.

Re: Labor activists oppose Federal NED/AFL-CIO funds that hurt unions, democracy

I just have one question for those of you that are Teamsters or SEIU... How much are your union dues going DOWN since you no longer have to chip in to the AFL-CIO?
Think about that while your cheering this great move.

the membership of the teamsters and seiu probably did not hear about this through anyone but the evening news. as someone in the carpenters union that pulled out of the afl-cio for the same fictitious "organizing" reasons years ago, i can assure any of the members in these union that there will be no change in the unions as a result. business unionism in different packaging, that is all.
