DePaul Students Protest on Eve of Tax Day
DePaul Students Against the War protested on 4/14/05 against war, occupation, imperialism, and corporate greed.
DePaul Students Against the War led a spirited rally and march throughout DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. The students rallied in the quad, before marching through the Schmidt Academic Center, and taking the streets down Belden, up Halsted and then back on Fullerton. The students ended by marching through the student center and rallying outside the student center. At the rally
musician Anna Roland performed
The students protested DePaul Universities connections to the military through ROTC, military recruiters and the International Human Rights Law Institute's program with the state department to "rebuild Iraq's legal structure" which includes teaching Iraqi law professors international business and trade law.
The students choose to protest on April 14th because it was the day before tax day. In the speeches given by students, they discussed how our tax money goes to fund the war instead of preventing Chicago transit authority service cuts.
Students also protested in solidarity with Colombian trade unionists who are being targeted by paramilitary terrorists and the coca-cola corporation. For the last two years, students at DePaul have waged a campaign to boycott coca-cola and get the University to cut it's contract with coke.
