The Education Not Empire Coalition would like to invite all individuals and organizations opposed to the militarization of youth and the increasing militarization of our society to join us for a "Youth and Miltiarization" themed feeder march on March 19.

Please bring signs, banners, photos, drums, water, snacks, cameras and plenty of friends!

RALLY: 10:30 AM SHARP!
Corporate Headquarters of Leo Burnett***
Corner of Wacker and Dearborn

We will rally outside of the Leo Burnett building for 30 minutes and then be joined by several other feeder marches at 11:00 AM. We will then march together to Wacker and Michigan to meet up with the Palestine Solidarity feeder march. At 11:15 AM the recently combined feeder marches will depart from Wacker and Michigan and march towards the noon rally at Oak and Michigan to join with the rest of Chicagoland in saying NO TO WAR AND OCCUPATION!

***
With the US economic crisis, young people have limited choices after high school and with the help of racist and misleading advertising campaigns military recruiters prey on the legitimate needs and aspirations of poor, working class and minority youth. The U.S. Army hired Leo Burnett, a multinational advertising agency, in January 2001 to develop a multimedia recruitment campaign for which they've been paid roughly $400 MILLION to depict military life as “fun and adventure.” Burnett's award winning campaign 'An Army of One' uses heavy metal music, video games and slick TV commercials to target Generation Y youth, with special emphasis on African-Americans and Latinos. Leo Burnett is also responsible for the 'Army of One' recruiting displays that many people have seen at the Taste of Chicago, Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Air & Water Show and other such festivals.

Its about time you young whippersnappers stood up for your selves.

I was beginning to think youth is wasted on the wrong people.

If you're reading this right now, thank a teacher.

If you're reading this in English, thank a SOLDIER.

It's very discouraging to say the least to see things like this. We live in a free country, but not because we say, or declare we are free.
The reason we are free to do and say what we want is because selfless men an women put their life on the line EVERYDAY to preserve that freedom so many take for granted.

I'm a United States Army Veteran who recently came home after spending a year of my life in Iraq. Before that, I spent six months on the ground in Kosovo, stopping the "ethnic cleansing," which we all know is nothing more than a politically correct name for "GENOCIDE."

People need to look past their world and understand that there is a bigger world which we are all apart of. We live in the greatest country in the world. As we all know America has it's problems, but just the very fact that you were able to express you opinion without fear of reprocussion is proof.

Think about that the next time you criticize our military. If you look around at them, you'll see that they are full of young men and women of all ethnic and religious backgrounds, who come from completely different beliefs. But it doesn't matter. What matters is that WE, keep you safe.

Whether you believe in the war or not is irrevelant. What matters is that you support the men and women fighting it. Some coming home missing arms, and limbs, or disfigured, and some not making it home at all. Think about that before you disrespect them.

I have fought and served my country like countless others before me. Have you? Until you have, enjoy the freedoms you have, but PLEASE do not criticize those out risking their lives protecting you.
