This present flap about burning Korans will serve as a watershed of moral behavior. Burning books which are held sacred by someone else is very rude and inconsiderate. In light of ongoing international politics and war, it may well be foolish.
But that is all. Those who respond with death threats and violence are mean and vicious people. The good reverend is responsible for being rude, inconsiderate and foolish. Those who respond with threats and violence are responsible for their own behavior. To each his own.
Burning Korans will not put any troops in danger, The politicians who started the war and sent soldiers there to fight it are the ones who put the troops in danger.
This reminds me of the days when people would say that if a woman got raped, it was her own fault because she wore sexy clothes, drank too much and went to out and about alone. No, she was guilty of being immoral and foolish, but the man/men who raped her were guilty of the rape?
Remember how the late, super-self-righteous Peter Jennings used to head up a whole cadre of white news commentators who were always speculating about what the black people might do if they didn't get their way about this and that and the other? Most of the time they didn't do anything.
Now we're trying to say that anyone guilty of being rude to Muslims will CAUSE any resulting violence? No. So far this Koran burning protest has shown what idiots our leaders are. If all those dire predictions come true, it will also prove what bloodthirsty tyrants Muslims are. If all those moderate Muslims want to demonstrate their values, they can gather at the church and defend those peoples' right to free speech, even as many Jewish lawyers have defended white separatists on the same issues.
