TAMMS YEAR TEN: POTLUCK + PRISONER LETTERS

JOIN TAMMS YEAR TEN: POTLUCK + PRISONER LETTERS

WHAT: Tamms Year Ten is holding monthly potluck meetings to read, discuss, and answer letters from men held in permanent solitary confinement at Tamms supermax prison. We will read and answer letters sent to us by prisoners at Tamms, and a guest speaker will discuss various topics related to Tamms. Bring snacks, a dish or beverages if you can, but don't let that keep you away!

WHY: Many of the prisoners at Tamms have been kept in total social isolation since the prison opened in 1998. Tamms Year Ten's public letter writing campaign is meant to initiate basic human contact with them, and to raise awareness about long-term solitary confinement.

WHEN: Sunday, May 23rd at 4pm
WHERE: Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone Avenue

GUEST SPEAKER: Jean Maclean Snyder
Jean Maclean Snyder litigated on behalf of mentally ill prisoners in Tamms in 1999 with the MacArthur Justice Center. Snyder will talk about the misguided and inhumane practice of prolonged solitary confinement, and discuss the need for a political movement to end warehousing in Illinois prisons. We will discuss the newly-forming network of Illinois advocates called Alliance 1-11.

Come learn more about conditions at Tamms and what you can do to help. For more information visit www.yearten.org.
