News and Letters Committees invites you to a panel discussion:
Against the Criminal Injustice System
New movements and voices have emerged to oppose the totalitarian form of social control that has become so much a part of the U.S. criminal injustice system. This includes victims of police beatings and shootings, prisoners and their families, activists in the Black and Latino/a communities, and youth subjected to racial profiling and harassment.
Many in these struggles have not only stated their opposition to what exists but have reached for a vision of a totally different kind of
society.
Speakers:
• George W. Smith, Jr., activist against police brutality
• Larry Marshall, whose 11-year-old granddaughter was beaten by three white police officers
• Gerry Emmett, “World in View” columnist for News & Letters
Date: Monday, October 26
Time: 6:30 pm
Place: News & Letters Library
228 S. Wabash Ave., Room 230
