Buford Furrow, pawn or patsy?

And how governments through history have performed mass mind control.

MOST AMERICANS HAVE GROWN weary of the seemingly endless supply of so-called "lone nut" shooters who have littered our recent history. Less-than-believable official explanations have become as routine as the shootings themselves. But many Americans would be surprised to learn that there is more to the recent rash of slaughter than meets the eye. Why is there more? In a word, disinformation.

Disinformation takes many forms. It ranges from spin to outright fabrication. It includes seemingly spontaneous events staged to deliver a message as well as elaborate cover-ups and media blackouts engineered to conceal other events, lest the public learn the truth. It has been part of politics since cave days. It is ubiquitous. Where there is power there are liars.

Everyone lies sometimes, even if it is only to themselves. Official disinformation, however, is more than just lies. It is propaganda. As such it must be seen as one component of a psychological-war operation. That operation, like all operations, is being executed according to a plan. That plan is based on a strategy. What that strategy is and what goals it addresses can sometimes be extrapolated by logical analysis once once the strategy's components have been ascertained.

It would greatly behoove us all to discover the strategy behind the recent rash of shootings. There may not be one. These may actually be truly random incidents perpetrated by unrelated lone nuts. That's the official version, anyway. It is at least possible, at least theoretically. Our officials, however, have a long, rich, deep, and consistent history of lying to us through their teeth. That alone makes the official version suspect. There's more, a lot more.

A psychological-war operation (or op) of national scale can scarcely be called anything less than mass mind control. Mass mind control is neither science fiction nor the raving of paranoids. It's not even unusual. It's the norm. For any successful nation-state, mass mind control on a national scale is just one more part of business as usual. Why? Because it works. This was discovered early. The ancient Egyptian government, for example, had the people convinced that their figurehead, Pharaoh, was a living god. A case can be made that the nation-state itself is a mass-mind-control op. It exists solely because it is believed in. That's enough.

As recently as 1939, a single mass-mind-control op changed the course of human history in a single day. The Second World War began in Europe as response to a shooting on the German-Polish border that was totally staged. The props, including actors, uniforms, guns, corpses, and all, were supplied by German intelligence under the command of Otto Skorzeny. The propaganda was supplied by Dr. Joseph Goebbels and his ministry. They worked well together.

The op's code name was "Operation Canned Meat." It worked like a charm. The German people actually became convinced that Poland had invaded Germany. They rushed to defense of the Fatherland. The rest is history. The Second World War in Asia can be dated to an equally staged shooting incident. It took place in China at a place called Mukden Bridge.

So it is important that we learn what is actually going on behind this current wave of mass shootings, and not just take our leaders at their word and allow ourselves to be herded, even stampeded, in directions that are not in our own best interest. Behavior like that can get way out of hand very quickly. We can learn from our past. Waco was no surprise to anybody who knew what happened to MOVE. MOVE was no surprise to anybody who knew what happened at Wounded Knee. After JFK's murder, were the murders of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. all that much of a surprise? Does not Operation Canned Meat at least offer clues about the Tonkin Gulf incident and the Kuwaiti incubator "massacre"?

It is still too early to expect a comprehensive understanding of the recent Texas church massacre to have developed as yet. The CIA's programmed assassin-development program, MKULTRA, comes immediately to mind, of course. So does The Manchurian Candidate. But the story is still developing. If Waco is any indication, it may take a very long time to unfold. Until more facts are in the open we can really do little more than speculate.

Buford Furrow is quite another matter. A revealing picture of the man and his role has already begun to emerge. An even clearer picture has emerged of the extensive disinformation campaign that sprang into being almost immediately and distorted his story as fast as it spread. We can not only learn a great deal about its perps and their strategy by examining it as a whole, we can also avoid being deceived by its particulars.

Buford Furrow is the man alleged to have shot up the Jewish community center in Los Angeles on Aug. 10, 1999. Whether he did in fact open fire at the Granada Hills Jewish Center is open to serious question in view of early eyewitness accounts and descriptions of the shooter(s) issued by law enforcement early in the story. They describe a man of much different physical appearance. Furrow may have been involved, even if not as the shooter. He is certainly going to take the rap.

Before his surrender, the hunt for Furrow had spread across the West. The gunman gave the slip to police who arrived at the center within four minutes of the shootings. He allegedly hijacked a Toyota at gunpoint about 20 minutes later leaving behind a van full of ammunition, survival paraphernalia, and a book linked to white-supremacist thought then dumped the car at a motel and disappeared.

These do not appear to be the actions of a man who planned to surrender the next day. They do not appear to be the actions of a survivalist. They compose as unlikely a chain of events as does convicted Oklahoma City bomber Tim McVeigh allegedly killing 169 people in cold blood, successfully getting away from the scene of the crime, and then, though armed, meekly submitting to capture when a lone cop pulled him over for a routine traffic stop in the middle of nowhere instead of killing the cop and escaping.

It just doesn't make sense. That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't true. It does mean that only the foolish accept it as true without first wondering why it does not also, like most truth, make sense.

Some of the more conspiratorially minded denizens of the Internet decided immediately that Furrow is either a pawn or a patsy and that either way he was under government control. This is not purely unfounded speculation. Nor, given America's recent history, is it a bad guess. In a flurry of Usenet and listserv posts and e-mail, apparent conspiracy buffs have been citing as what they call "proof" of this theory the results of a number of search engine responses from soon after Furrow's name hit the mass media. While ASCII pixels of questionable origin are proof of nothing, they are certainly food for thought and grounds for further research. Consider this fairly typical Lycos WhoWhere? response to a "Buford Furrow" search:

"Buford Furrow
NSC-McChord (at) DDN-CONUS.DDN.MIL

e-mail Provider: United States Defense Information

Systems Agency Defense Data Network Program Office"

Is the Buford Furrow with the military address above the same Buford Furrow who allegedly went on the shooting rampage in L.A.? One somewhat hysterical, but not atypical, early analysis to hit the Net seemed certain:

This confirms Furrow's total links to federal intelligence operations!
Apparently the Nazi social manipulators in the intelligence agencies FORGOT TO COVER THEIR TRACKS ON THIS!

Furrow's e-mail address is a TOTAL GIVEAWAY! It goes to a National Security Council group operating at McChord Air Force Base near Seattle

The term "Nazi" is bandied about with such frequency and inexactitude these days that it is difficult to know what is meant without first determining the user's political persuasion and ascertaining the depth of his or her familiarity with history. More often than not the term is merely a pejorative expletive from the mouth of one who has little idea who the real Nazis were and, more importantly, of who they still are. The actual role played by the Nazis in the post WWII development of both Western and Soviet bloc intelligence community culture and operations is not taught in our schools. It has, however, been more than adequately documented in print for those who are willing to undertake their own education. Blowback: America's Recruitment of Nazis and Its Effect on the Cold War by Christopher Simpson is a good place to start.

The Defense Information Systems Agency, on the other hand, is a very real and very specific entity. Its mission, as stated on its Web site, is:

"To plan, engineer, develop, test, manage programs, acquire, implement, operate, and maintain information systems for C4I and mission support under all conditions of peace and war."
"C4I" is military jargon for a type of military intelligence operation: Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence. It is integral to military function. Without C4I, a disciplined, organized armed force would quickly devolve into a confused mob.

This does not prove that the Buford Furrow with the military e-mail address and the alleged Granada Hills incident shooter are one and the same person. It does not prove that the alleged shooter and the actual shooter are one and the same. It certainly does not prove that either man was a military intelligence agent.

It does raise some intriguing questions, though. There has been at least one report, apparently in response to skepticism about the identity of the e-mail address holder, that claimed on the bases of "reliable sources" that it was really his address, and not his father's. His father is supposedly also military. Are these reports distractions, or did "Nazis" in the intelligence community really "forget to cover their tracks" on this one? It is very difficult indeed to tell from a distance.

Let's look at the record. Chief among the key characteristics of the real Nazis and their friends in America's intelligence community is that they seldom if ever "forget" to cover their tracks. They are, actually, masters of camouflage. They are obsessed with camouflage. When, for example, Klaus Barbie, the "Butcher of Lyon," was in the pay of the U.S. government his file was listed as "Barbier." The file was easy to find for those who knew where to look. Those that did not could honestly report that no "Klaus Barbie" was on the federal payroll. Real Nazis also exhibit great skill at laying false trails and strewing red herrings. Disinformation of all types is as much their stock in trade as it is their "bodyguard of lies." They are so cool!

Real Nazis have also proven as adept at recruiting irregular auxiliaries from among the paramilitaries of America's homegrown, working class fascist and racist organizations as they have at recruiting friends in high places. This skill was honed during WWII when fascists native to lands occupied by the advancing Wehrmacht were recruited into the Waffen SS, Hitler's "foreign legion."

Arguably it can be traced to the Thule Society and other proto-Nazi groups' great success in establishing the Freikorps to fight their counter revolution when Germany collapsed at the end of WWI. Though demobilized on paper, the soldiers of the Freikorps fought on as cat's paws for the German industrial capitalists who formed the real power behind what later became the Nazi Party, the NSDAP.

Journalists Dave Emory and John Judge, as well as the late, great historian Mae Brussell, all came through their research to see the contemporary American fascist, racist paramilitary underground as a sort of modern day Freikorps , waiting in the wings for its friends in high places to call it into action. As we now know, these troops are no longer waiting in the wings. They are waging a guerrilla war against the rest of us. A civil insurrection is in progress in America today. It is still, by historical standards, a low-intensity conflict. But have no doubts, it is war. People are being killed, buildings are being blown up and trains are being wrecked, all by forces with a common goal and strategy. This is war by definition. This should be kept firmly in mind when considering the implications of Furrow's neo-Nazi connections.

It's important to also keep in mind the degree to which the federal government has infiltrated and manipulates the fascist, racist underground. Furrow is clearly no lone nut. He is a soldier in the Aryan army. He has firmly established connections to persons at the very core of the movement. Exactly whose orders he is following is a matter of some question. In one alleged firsthand account, a self professed FBI undercover agent, now supposedly retired, states that he was Furrow's commanding officer when Furrow was a guard at "Rev." Butler's Aryan Nation compound in Idaho. What does this tell us about the relationship between the FBI and the Aryan Nations?

This agent, incidentally, says the Furrow he knew was not the kind of guy to fly off the handle. As a guard he is reported to have been a calm, levelheaded man (I personally admire the hell out of the man). He is, in fact, alleged to have once calmed down a bunch of Aryan hotheads who had wanted to attack a group of protesters haranguing them from outside the compound gate. This is inconsistent with the mass media's image of Furrow as a crazed loner who ran amok. But to be perfectly frank, we have no idea whatsoever whether the self-professed FBI agent is telling the truth or even if he is even a real FBI agent at all. The main obstacle confronting investigators of these events is not that the truth lies hidden, but the plethora of distracting disinformation that surrounds it. No one connected with such events or with their alleged perpetrators can be taken solely on their own word.

One enormously successful type of disinformation these types employ is what's called in "spookspeak" spy trade jargon "modified limited hangout." Modified limited hangout is a form of false trail. A second lie is composed and evidence falsified in advance for the inevitable independent investigators to "uncover", when the official version fails to hold up under scrutiny. These "hangouts" can, of course, be layered upon layer, keeping diligent investigators busy for years.

Independent investigators are a damn nuisance, especially since Nov. 22, 1963, when a great influx of talented amateurs began to join the community's hard core of professional journalists. They have plagued the cloak and dagger operatives behind America's political curtain with endless embarrassing questions and even outright accusations, many of which have later proven true. These annoying and potentially dangerous little pests are ridiculed in the lapdog mass media with the psychobabblesque pejorative "conspiracy theorists," i.e. "nut cases," as if being a "coincidence theorist" was some sign of sanity. They have been tapped, tailed, harassed and even threatened in person by scary looking guys of uncertain affiliation. A few have even had what is called in the trade "an unfortunate accident."

The traditional, ancient mighty mystic binding spell, "We know where you live and we know what your car looks like," has not proven to be the ubiquitous deterrent it had been hoped to be, though. Neither have the murders and mysterious disappearances. With few prominent exceptions, the independent investigator community has steadfastly refused to sit down, shut up, and quit turning over rocks. The advent of the Internet has made the community's work available to the masses. It has also swelled the ranks.

No longer is the "conspiracy theorist" a lone voice crying in the wilderness. The overwhelming majority of Americans, for example, now reject out of hand the official "lone nut" version of JFK's assassination. That enough mosquitoes can drain a moose has not gone unnoticed by the powers that be.

The intelligence community has met the challenge of the Internet with time-tested countermeasures. First and foremost it has infiltrated the Net wing of the independent investigator community. Not every apparent conspiracy buff posting to Usenet and listservs is what he or she appears to be. Some are agents of disinformation. Their numerous versions of what's "really" going on behind the scenes are a welter of confusion to the neophyte reader.

Some accounts are startlingly close to the truth, name names, and date dates. Others are right off the wall and cite "aliens," the Illuminati, "the Jews," or the Masons as the real force behind history. Some even blame Satan, ancient curses, Bible prophecies, numerology, or the position of the stars for current events. All these widely varying versions confuse all but the most diligent and rational of those just beginning to try to make sense of the seemingly random events in life that shape history. This strategy of overwhelming the curious with a data fog is called in spookspeak "flooding the channels." It is very effective on the masses at large.

Fooling the seasoned and rational investigator is a little more difficult and requires a more sophisticated strategy. That modified limited hangout usually does the trick was proven conclusively by the long successful cover-up of what really happened on Nov. 22, 1963.

Elaborate planning and preparation allowed the perps to say at one point words to the effect of, "Oh, you clever investigators. You caught us in the act. We did lie. There was a conspiracy after all, just like you suspected. Only it wasn't us. Oh no. It was the Cubans. And the only reason we lied was because if we had told the truth the public would have demanded retaliation, the Russians would have defended Cuba, and we would have all died in World War Three."

A little later they were able to say in effect, "You clever investigators! You've done it again. You've discovered we made a mistake, an honest mistake. It wasn't the Cubans after all. It was the Mob." And so on.

So when we see discussion on the Net flooded with unsubstantiated reports of events and occurrences that could easily have been set up in advance as red herrings, we must be duly suspicious. This is especially true when they add up to, "Oh, you clever investigators. You've deduced that some elements of the government are involved in a conspiracy with these neo-Nazi terrorists. You're right. It is a government conspiracy. But it wasn't us. It was a different branch. It was the Air Force."

But the truth really is out there. Keep digging.
