Chicago Protests Repression in Honduras
Monday afternoon, in Chicago 50 people protested the violent attack against demonstrators in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on Sunday, July 5th.

Speakers at the protest condemned the coup against Manuel Zelaya and the ongoing repression. More than 600 persons are known to have been detained since the coup on June 28th and more than 300 of the detained have been arrested. Human rights organizations in Honduras report that clandestine detention centers are being used by the army and federal police while the infamous death squad organizations are being reorganized by the government to hunt down activists and leaders of organizations Meanwhile protests continue against the coup and "gorilla" government of Roberto Michiletti, demanding the return of Manuel Zelaya to the presidency. A general strike of teachers and educational workers was reported to have started on Monday that has closed almost all the schools.
