"I cannot imagine that any other former Congressperson or even a group of US citizens or humanitarian aid workers could be treated this way in relation to a blockade that President Obama has already condemned as wrong, saying that humanitarian aid should be allowed to get through. In my experience and that of history, piracy against ships and imprisonment of US citizens has been universally condemned, becoming a national news item and issue, and grounds for immediate expressions of outrage on the part of officials and the Excecutive Office, followed by demands for immediate release of the captives, and restoration of all property, as well as the threat, sometimes mobilized to the area, of military force. The massive silence of both media and officials on this issue speaks volumes."
