As you read this, five Illinois residents - including Margaret Jackson of the American Friends Service Committee - have launched a hunger strike.
Why?
Because the Illinois General Assembly seems poised to balance the budget on the backs of Illinois' most vulnerable citizens.
The proposed budget would destroy critical state programs, such as:
Addiction prevention and treatment (428,000 individuals served)
Health care assistance for children (300,000 children served)
Mental health programs (250,000 individuals served)
Child care assistance for working parents (167,000 children served)
It would take away vital human services, putting millions of Illinois citizens at risk.
Join us by taking action today!
Call or email your state legislator - you can look up your representative at
www.ilga.gov/
Ask your legislator to do the right thing: Pass a fair budget that puts people first.
Urge him or her to:
Vote NO on general revenue cuts
Vote YES to increase the income tax
Vote YES to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit
Together we can make a difference. Act today!
Many thanks,
