Bill Barclay - The Economics of a Living Wage
Tom Broderick is co-chair of Greater Oak Park Democratic Socialists of America. This is the organization that originally proposed a Living Wage Ordinance to the Village Board and subsequently got a referendum placed on last November’s Village Township ballot.
Rev. C. J. Hawking is a United Methodist pastor and the executive director of the faith-based workers’ rights group Arise Chicago. She is co-author of the newly released book, Staley: The Fight for the New American Labor Movement. Hawking has a 15-year history in faith-labor organizing, including janitor union organizing. She is a visiting lecturer in labor and social movements at the University of Illinois and the Harry F. Ward Social Justice pastor at Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church in Oak Park.
Dr. Bill Barclay is a member of the Oak Park Coalition for Truth and Justice, the Oak Park chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and the Chicago chapter of Progressive Democrats of Illinois. He is also a participant in the Chicago Political Economy Group. Prior to retiring in 2004, he worked for 22 years in financial services. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the UIC College of Business Administration.
