ART SURGE, a collective of Wisconsin based artists, hits the road for a month long exhibit of sociopolitical themed art, "Global Instigations", at the Heartland Cafe on March 28.

Founded by Lester Dore in Madison in the spring of 2008, in response to the Bush administration's "war on terror", Art Surge has rapidly grown into an ever-expanding collective of artists seeking a forum to exhibit work of a social and political nature.

Art Surge aims to stage one to two exhibits per year which, despite the loose nature of the collective, have so far proven to be remarkably cohesive affairs. A rare thing for group shows.

While previous exhibits addressed the "war on terror" and the dire state of American politics, "Global Instigations", timed to coincide with the Southern Graphics Council Conference's theme of "Global Implications", casts its gaze further afield: from the continuing conflict in Northern Ireland, to the plight of workers and farmers in Mexico, our ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy, and even casts a wary eye at the
Obama administration.

"Global Instigations" kicks off at the Heartland Cafe at 5pm until closing on Saturday, March 28, with many of the artists in attendance. Music on the night will be provided by Jesus "Chuy" Negrete, with food and refreshments available from the Heartland's cafe and bars. The exhibit runs until April 24.

Artists scheduled to take part include: Matthew Bendert, Steve Chappell,
Michael Connors, Pamela Cremer, Lester Doré, Mike Duffy, Patrick JB Flynn,
Eric Hagstrom, HighFlyer #13, John Hitchcock, Samuel D. Johnson, Mike
Konopacki, Colm McCarthy, Ana Nimo, Nino Rodriguez and Jason Ruhl.
