Anti-olympic hooligans send message to Olympic Committee
Chicago to Rio and in between, no Olympics in 2016!
Chicago and Madrid, shut down the bid!
Last night, the Next Generation Leadership Advisory Council (NGLAC) held a ritzy party at the LuxBar full of the Who’s Who of Chicago’s elite, self-described “up-and-coming civic and business leaders,” to celebrate the preparation of Chicago’s Olympic bid book and the coronation of their new president. The group’s stated purpose is to raise funds and volunteers to support the bid. For some odd reason, they didn’t invite us (not that we had the money for the $100 a plate dinner), but we showed up anyways.
About 30 of us gathered, armed with bucket drums, a banner, black flags, anti-Olympic confetti and the team colors. We black-clad thugs certainly put a damper on the festivities! We were immediately greeted by an irate manager and Chicago’s finest, while we marched around the block in close proximity to the bar with chants ranging from “Chicago to Rio and in between, no Olympics in 2016!” to “Chicago and Madrid, shut down the bid!”. Having had enough of us, the CPD brought a paddy wagon over to block off our route, but we just went around it a few times.
They then proceeded to open the doors, perhaps to fill it with those intent on gentrifying, displacing, and militarizing our city. Yeah, if only it were that simple. It was a clear message to those willing to stand up to the power brokers of misery that if you don’t go along with the program, you get the iron fist that backs up the thin veneer. So between jail and the streets, we chose the streets. Our contingent marched around the loop, paying visits to Loyola, McDonalds, and Michigan Avenue while disrupting traffic a bit.
Our message was clear: To the IOC, NGLAC, CPD, city government, and all those intent on destroying this city with this capitalist catalyst, EXPECT RESISTANCE!
