Ambassador Charles Shapiro leads the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Task Force for the Free Trade Agreements with Peru, Colombia and Panama.
Ambassador Shapiro previously served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (2005-2007) and U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela (February 2002 until August 2004).
Ambassador Shapiro will discuss the challenges we currently face in the region as well as challenges that the new administration will need to address. He will discuss U.S. Relations with Latin American countries, the importance of developing and maintaining strong economic ties with Latin America, and provide updates on the FTA's with Panama, Colombia and Peru. He will also touch on how our economy is affecting countries in Latin America.
