Announcement :: Protest Activity

"Jailing of Journalists" RNC Forum

With the recent release of "Terrorizing Dissent" and constant reports about what happened during the RNC, it is essential that students and members of the community come together to engage in a forum about what happened in St. Paul and Minneapolis during the RNC.
ANNOUNCEMENT

I am a student at Columbia College who is organizing a forum to be sponsored by a group I run called the Students for Media Reform at Columbia College. The scheduled date for the event is November 20th, a Thursday. This is about a week before Thanksgiving.

The forum is tentatively titled, "Jailing of Journalists" and subtitled "The Suppression of Journalism and the First Amendment at the RNC".

I am looking for volunteers to serve on the panel. I am looking for anyone who was in St. Paul covering the RNC and ended up being arrested for having a camera or for trying to report on the protest activity. Or, I am looking for members of the media who can give accounts of what happened to the press during the RNC.

We are especially interested in any lawyers who are helping to defend journalists or have experience doing such and we are especially interested in anyone who was working for Glass Bead Collective or I-Witness Video or any other organization like that.

This announcement is being put out on Monday, Oct 27th. It remains valid until November 5th.

A side note---TerrorizingDissent.org recently posted news of a documentary on the 2008 RNC. We may screen it in conjunction with the panel discussion.
