Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- China continues to receive international praise for the 2008 Olympics. China is angry about US criticism of the handling of Pro-Tibet protesters. North Korea says it has stopped disabling its nuclear reactor in response to Washington's failure to remove it from a list of states promoting terrorism. Brazil plans to impose sanctions at the WTO against the US for subsidies to cotton farmers. Russia raised controversy by recognizing the right of two regions of Georgia to retain their independence. Russian President Medvedev warned that Russia might sever all ties to NATO if the arming of its neighbors continues.
From NETHERLANDS- The UN is very concerned over a US led raid in Afghanistan last weekend that killed 90 civilians. A reality TV show in the Netherlands is exposing the widespread substitution of fake cheese for real cheese in many foods. Capturing the carbon dioxide from power plants is being developed as a method of reducing the greenhouse effect- however there are potentially deadly problems when the CO2 is piped to underground storage.
From CUBA- A UN human rights expert has pointed out that the indigenous population of Brazil has little control over their lands despite agreements made by the government. Russia's military is carefully watching the buildup of NATO military forces in the Black Sea region. The UN has stated that a lack of funds has stalled its planned removal of cluster bombs dropped by Israel into Lebanon 2 years ago. The US and Israel have agreed on the deployment of a high-powered missile radar system in Israel to be staffed by US military personnel.
From RUSSIA- Russia says it will have to react militarily to the placement of missiles adjacent to their borders. Syria and Israel are having direct talks to determine how much Syrian territory is under Israeli occupation. A commentary in the wake of Georgia's attack on South Ossetia and Russia's military response, leading Russia to reconsider any relationship with NATO.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via < www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < feed://www.radio4all.net/responder.php/podcast/podcast.xml?series=outFarpress+presents > or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)
Check out the amazing streams at < www.radicalradio.org >
And Radio For Peace International at < www.rfpi.org >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
