Immigration, Worker Rights, and Globalization: Economic Justice in the 21st Century
Tuesday November 27th
7 pm to 9 pm
333 S. Ashland Ave. Chicago
Dr. Gabriela Lemus, Executive Director of the Labor Coalition for Latin American Advancement and a member of the USLEAP board of directors, will speak about the challenges of organizing for worker rights in a political climate that promotes unfettered economic globalization, while punishing the immigrant workers who are the result of those economic policies.
Dr. Lemus was formerly Director of Policy and Legislation at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), where she founded the LULAC Democracy Initiative Voter Project, a national Hispanic civic participation campaign focused on voter education, registration and get-out-the-vote.
*This lecture is organized in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the U.S. Labor Education in the Americas Project(USLEAP), an independent non-profit organization fighting for worker justice in the global economy.
