Averting Another Catastrophe: The Folly of a War On Iran

Saturday, December 8th at 2pm Damen Hall, Room 144 Loyola University, Lakeshore Campus ½ block north of Kenmore & W. Sheridan Rd. (Devon Ave.)

This event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by a wide array of regional peace and social justice organizations as well as the Loyola Department of Political Science, the event features an impressive lineup of speakers.

* Elahe Amani – A scholar and activist on peace and international women's issues, Amani is a founding member of the Society for the Support of Human Rights in Iran and Chair of the Women's
Intercultural Network. Featuring extensive publications in both Persian and English, she teaches at the California State University, Long Beach and Fullerton.

* Mansour Farhang – Now teaching International Relations and Middle East Studies at Bennington College in Vermont, Farhang was Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations in 1979-80. He resigned his post in protest of Ayatollah Khomeini's refusal to accept the U.N. recommendation to release the U.S. hostages. Farhang is a commentator on the BBC and has extensive knowledge of Iran's nuclear program. He is the author of U.S. Imperialism: From the Spanish-American War to the Iranian Revolution and The U.S. Press and Iran: Foreign Policy and the Journalism of Deference.

* Stephen Kinzer – A foreign correspondent for the New York Times for 30 years, Kinzer reported from more than 50 countries. He served as the paper's bureau chief in Turkey, Germany, and Nicaragua. He is the author of many books, including Overthrow: America's Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq and All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the
Roots of Middle East Terror. A frequent contributor to the New York Review of Books and a columnist for Guardian America, he teaches Journalism and international Affairs at Northwestern University.

* Danny Postel – Serving as host and moderator, Postel is senior
editor at openDemocracy and a contributing editor at Daedalus, the journal of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He is the author of Reading "Legitimation Crisis" in Tehran: Iran and the Future of
Liberalism and the editor of the forthcoming The Shadow of Kosovo.
