Chicago Students Uniting to Expose Increased Repression of Youth Anti-War Movement
Three recently arrested student organizers are uniting to fight police oppression and call for resistance to an attack on Iran.
CHICAGO – Student Organizers Nick Andrews, Marck Hilgendorf, and Sergey Turzhanskiy will be discussing their October 27 arrests during an Anti-Imperialist student march en route to join the National Anti-War march at Union park. They will expose the recent crackdown on the student anti-war movement at 4:00PM on Thursday, November 15, at the University Center Dorms' Army "Career" Center, located at 525 S. State St. in Chicago.
Nick Andrews started a chapter of Students for a Democratic Society at Jones College Preparatory School. Marck Hilgendorf and Sergey Turzhanskiy are members of World Can't Wait Drive Out the Bush Regime and SDS, and have been leaders in the University Center's Counter-Recruitment Campaign and the struggle to tenure Professor Norman Finkelstein of DePaul. All have been familiar faces in the anti-war movement.
These students will be joined by the students of Morton West High School who faced expulsion for holding a peaceful sit-in against the Iraq war in their high school's cafeteria. Other speakers include College faculty and leaders in the National Anti-War movement. A focus will be placed on the recent escalation of war threats against Iran, what must be done to prevent this attack, and how students play a crucial role in public resistance. The question will be raised of why students are being so aggressively targeted, with arrests, expulsions and FBI agents questioning a Columbia professor.
The event is being organized by SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) a student group uniting college campuses and high schools nationwide, and WCW (The World Can't Wait Drive Out the Bush Regime!) a national movement determined to drive out the Bush regime through massive political upheaval.
