More than two dozen students were suspended and some are facing expulsion after a sit-in last Thursday in the school cafeteria.
The ACLU said the protest was non-violent and did not prevent students from getting an education. It called the 10-day suspensions and possible expulsions imposed on some students "grossly disproportionate to the alleged offenses."
