Saturday Minneapolis anti-war protest part of national day of anti-war actions
Saturday, October 27 Noon – 1 PM
Lake Street & Hiawatha in Minneapolis
Anti-war activists in Minnesota will gather this Saturday, October 27, as part of a national day of action calling for an end to the war in Iraq. The Minneapolis event will be a "human billboard" of potentially hundreds of people on the sidewalk of one of the busiest intersections in Minneapolis, the corner of Lake Street and Hiawatha, from Noon to 1 pm.
Eleven major regional demonstrations against the war will take place including actions in Chicago, New York, Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Orlando and Philadelphia organized by United for Peace and Justice, a nationwide antiwar organization.
The Iraq Peace Action Coalition (IPAC) is sponsoring the local event and states: "The majority of the people of the U.S. and Iraq want an end to the U.S. war and occupation of Iraq. Thousands of lives and billions of dollars have been lost. The October 27 protests are part of a growing movement calling for an end to the war and for U.S. troops to be brought home now."
The Saturday event is organized under the calls of: "Out of Iraq; End the war now; Funds for human needs not war."
Speakers at the event will include representatives from Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and Military Families Speak Out (MFSO).
