1st National Restaurant Workers Convening Aug 3 and 4
1st National Conference for all Restaurant Workers meets this Friday and Saturday in Uptown at the Interfaith Worker Justice Center. 1020 W. Bryn Mawr
The Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York (ROC-NY) and Young Workers United of San Francisco (YWU) will host the first National Convening of Restaurant Workers in Chicago this weekend, August 3rd and 4th. The two day event will take place at the Interfaith Worker Justice Center at 1020 W. Bryn Mawr, 4th Floor. The objectives of the conference are to identify challenges and injustices, and then explore strategies in organizing and acting, both locally and nationally, in order to improve conditions for restaurant workers nation wide.
ROC-NY was founded by some surviving members of the Windows on the World restaurant atop the World Trade Center. They are quite active in New York with a two pronged approach of litigation and public action. In their few years of existence they have won hundreds of thousands of dollars in owed wages to restaurant workers. For more information and conference schedule visit;
