Area youth skated this afternoon in Humboldt Park in support of free universal health care. The event was organized by Humboldt Park based board maker Relate Skateboards in remembrance of cofounder Ruben Osorio Jr., who died of lymphoma after worries of health care costs led him, like many of the uninsured, to seek medical care too late. His business partner Rafael "Taco" Boria Jr. stated that the event was, "Trying to do something with a purpose," around the health care issue not only for his late friend, but also so that others in a similar position, including the neighborhood youth present, wouldn't, "always have to worry about tomorrow."
This was the latest universal health care event in Chicago, following a high profile rally led by filmmaker Michael Moore on 21 June, and the release of his new film Sicko the next day. Further coverage of that event posted to CIMC can be found here and here.
