We encourage all interested and concerned citizens to attend a Town Hall Meeting on the subject of impeachment. The meeting will be held on Saturday, July 7th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Veteran’s Room of the Oak Park Public Library’s Main Branch at 834 Lake Street. The Oak Park chapter of World Can’t Wait is sponsoring the event.
Discussion of impeachment of the President, Vice President and perhaps others has been in the forefront of many Americans’ minds lately. Many progressive organizations have been publicizing the reasons they feel impeachment of the Bush Administration is necessary for months, and perhaps years. We are at an important crossroads for the nation, and it is a fitting time to openly discuss the option of impeachment.
Featured speakers include:
• Russ Conte of the Oak Park chapter of Amnesty International USA
• Jill McLaughlin, member of the Chicago and National Steering Committees of World Can’t Wait
• Benita Ulisano of the Illinois affiliate of the National Abortion Rights Action League
• Derek Griffin, spokesperson for the Chicago-area chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War
• INVITED Stan Willis, nationally-renowned representative of the National Conference of Black Lawyers
• INVITED Ken Trainor, well-known columnist for the Wednesday Journal
The speakers’ topics will include:
• the concept and history of impeachment
• legal and ethical justifications for impeachment
• methods in which impeachment proceedings can be undertaken
• the Bush Administration’s record on such issues as human rights, fiscal responsibility, adherence to International law and responsible foreign policy
• whether or not impeachment should be seriously considered in the current environment
An open audience discussion will follow the presentations. Attendees will be encouraged to direct questions to the speakers or to the group in general.
Please join fellow responsible citizens for what promises to be a lively and informative afternoon. Free refreshments will be served. If you have questions or need additional details, please contact Ed Bass at 312-316-2015 or email
