3/3 Presentation: U.S. Crisis in the Middle East, The Anti-War Movement and the March 17th March on the Pentagon

Open University of the Left presents on Saturday March 3, 2:00 PM at In These Times, 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave. Chicago John Beacham Organizer and ANSWER Chicago Co-Coordinator and frequent contributor to Socialism and Liberation Magazine.
This month marks the fourth anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. A war that is now longer than the Second World War and appears to be without end. OUL is pleased to welcome John Beacham co-coordinator of Chicago ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) who argues that only a genuine mass movement has the capacity to bring this unjust war to an end. His organization is coordinating the March 17th March on the Pentagon in Washington D.C. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the first Pentagon march during the Vietnam era. (For more information about the March on the Pentagon, visit www.marchonthepentagon.org.) For info about the Chicago Bus to the March go to www.chicagoanswer.net.

Beacham a frequent contributor to "Socialism and Liberation" magazine will examine such issues as the rationale behind the March 17th march, the ambiguous relationship that exists between the antiwar movement and the Democratic Party. What can end the war in Iraq? What is the current state of U.S. imperialism in the Middle east and
the ongoing and growing resistance to this aggression by the people from this region.

In 1967 the mwssage from the first Pentagon march was "From Protest to Resistance." A militant antiwar movement then confronted the official lies, eventually producing mass resistance that finally lead to the ending of that war. Join us as a leading antiwar organizer seeks to build up a similar popular movement in our time to end this war.
