Dear Friends,
We invite you to join us in a national effort to call for an immediate moratorium. Yesterday in LA, I.C.E. hit the public transportation demanding identification and arresting people. It's clear that they are totally out of control. We must stand together in calling for an immediate stop to the raids and deportations. Please join us in a press conference tomorrow 10:00 AM Feb. 14th at Adalberto United Methodist Church where Elvira Arellano is in sanctuary, located at 2716 W. NATIONAL CALL FOR A TEMPORARY MORATORIUM ON RAIDS AND DEPORTATIONS TO BE MADE IN TWENTY STATES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH
"I.C.E. AGENTS TERRORIZE PEOPLE ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN L.A., ARREST MANY: WILL THEY DO IT IN CHICAGO?"
"WHY SHOULD FAMILIES AND CHILDREN PAY BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT HAS TAKEN SO LONG TO FIX OUR BROKEN IMMIGRATION LAWS?" ~Elvira Arellano
Angry and indignant at the seven fold increase in raids and deportations in recent months – even as both houses of Congress and the White House have committed themselves to fixing our broken immigration system – coalitions of organizations in over twenty states will announce a campaign to demand that President Bush declare an immediate temporary moratorium on all raids and deportations and separation of families, except where national security interests are truly involved, until the Congress and the President pass and implement comprehensive immigration reform.
A coalition of community, labor and religious leaders in Chicago will join the national call on Wednesday.
