Says Bhavan's Cultural Centre's administrative committee member Lalit Shah, "We were approached by a total of 11 NGOs for this festival, and now we too have become part and parcel of the festival. It is for a good cause and I hope people come and encourage the initiative. There will be films that talk about the message of peace; there will also be cultural programmes, adivasi dances, and programmes by Shubha Mudgal and Nadira Babbar."

Taking the initiative forward will be yet another film festival in the city on the theme of `non-violence and global disarmament' that will launch on India's Republic Day, January 26, 2007. The second 7 Islands International Film Festival will be on a bigger scale and will showcase about 40 national and international films from around the globe. The five day festival will be held at Bhavan's Cultural Centre and will end on January 30, Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. The event will be co-organised by Bhavan's Cultural Centre, the Yusuf Meherally Centre and Shrividya Sansthan. The lineup of films includes Weapons of Mass Deception, Being Osama, Ground Zero, Mandela in America, Missing Tooth and Not In My Name, among others.

Says Shah, "The 7 Islands International Film Festival is in its second year and we are very encouraged by the response we received last year, when noted personalities like Javed Siddiqui and Govind Nihalani attended the festival."
