The Hungarian Revolution of 1956: in Life and in Thought
Speaker: Kevin Anderson, author of Lenin, Hegel and Western Marxism: A Critical Study (Univ. of Illinois Press)
Fifty years ago, the workers and students of Hungary rose up against the oppressive system forced on them by Stalin at the end of World War II. The revolution was violently suppressed by the Russian army, but the ideas that animated the Hungarian masses could not be put down by force of arms. Participate in a discussion of the events of 1956 and the revolutionary humanism behind them.
