AJLPP-USA Mobilize for the Martial Law Commemoration and International Global Days of Action

The Alliance for Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines (AJLPP)-USA in solidarity with the people of the Philippines in their militant protest against political killings, call to resume peace negotiations and in commemoration of the 34th year of the declaration of martial rule in the Philippines launches different types of activities from September 21-23 in four major cities in the United States.

AJLPP-USA Mobilize for the Martial Law Commemoration and International Global Days of Action Against Political Killings in the Philippines, Sept 21-23, 2006.

Los Angeles -- The Alliance for Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines (AJLPP)-USA in solidarity with the people of the Philippines in their militant protest against political killings, call to resume peace negotiations and in commemoration of the 34th year of the declaration of martial rule in the Philippines launches different types of activities from September 21-23 in four major cities in the United States.

AJLPP also invite the public especially those survivors or people who witnessed and experienced martial law and are against political killings in the Philippines to come and join this commemorative events.

The following cities will hold activities like commemorative events, cultural night and community forums from Sept. 21-23, 2006: --

- Sept. 21 Thursday, 7;00 PM, Ecumenical Service at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 979 12th St. Oakland, California. “Commemorative Night for the victims of political killings and martial law.” The event is sponsored by AJLPP-San Francisco.

-- Sept 22 Friday, 7:00 PM in Los Angeles- AJLPP Community Forum with International ANSWER at Remy’s on Temple, 2126 W. Temple St. A Community Forum- “Philippine Update and the Evils of Martial Law.” Remy’s on Temple. 2126 W. Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90026

- Sept. 22 Friday 6:00 PM in Seattle. “Remembering Philippine Martial Law-Then and Now”, ANSWER office, 1423 10th Ave. (Close to Pike St) Seattle, WA.

- Sept. 23 Cultural Event Reclaim II-Re-affirming our Culture of Resistance – A Cultural Night to commemorate martial law, the closing of the US bases and in solidarity Philippine protest against political killings by UGNAYAN NG MGA ANAK NG BAYAN youth at St. Marks Parish Hall, 131 E. 10th St. New York.

Joining ILPS Call for Global Day of Action

AJLPP organizations like the Philippine Peasant Support Network (Pesante)-USA, Filipino Workers Association of San Francisco (FWA-SF), Kabataang maka-Bayan (KmB), Ecumenical Fellowship (EF), Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) and other founding member organizations of the International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS) also responded to the call of the ILPS International Coordinating Committee (ICC) to launch days of global action in support of the Filipino struggle against the increased political killings.

On September 21, 2006, ILPS organizations will hold protest rallies all over the world to support the Philippine struggle against the resurgence of fascism and political –extra judicial killings.

The Philippine military and police “death squads” have claimed more than 752 lives since Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo assumed power in 2001.International groups like the Amnesty International (AI), the World Council of Churches, the US Methodist Church to name a few have condemned the US-Arroyo regime for the killings.

Sept. 23 Mass Action to Free The Cuban Five.

The AJLPP is also mobilizing for the Sept. 23 Free the Cuban Five campaign. A press conference and a march to the Whiter House will be held in Washington D.C. to be led by the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five.

The march will start at the Justice Department at 10tth st and Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House at 11: AM. A public Forum will be held later at 2:00 PM at the George Washington University, 1957 E. Street, and NW Room 113. Speakers will be Wayne Smith, former chief, US Interest Section, Havana, Sail Landu, Leonard Wienglass and others.

The event is sponsored by the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five, National Lawyers League (NLG), La Alianza Matiniana, ANSWER Coalition, National Network for Cuba, FMLN-USA and others.
