A Week of Community Action on Digital Divide

Five years after 9-11 we stand committed to the cause of Social Justice and our approach to community revitalization through Digital Empowerment.
We've seen people awakened to the need for deeper and more meaningful connection and action in our society, and we are thankful for those that
have remained engaged.
9-11-2006

Five years after 9-11 we stand committed to the cause of Social Justice and our approach to community revitalization through Digital Empowerment.
We've seen people awakened to the need for deeper and more meaningful connection and action in our society, and we are thankful for those that
have remained engaged.

This week is a big week in the cause of Digital Literacy, Access and Equity in Chicago. Stand up and be counted!

Everyone should be finishing up their proposals to DCEO for tomorrow (Sept 12).
This is the only round for this year. Make known to your state representatives in this election year that this program is not
adequately funded.

Everyone should be aware that the first two of four Public Hearings on the Digital Divide will be convened Weds & Thursday evenings.
It's a major step forward that the city has established this Advisory Group on the Digital Divide.
If either of these two meetings is in your quadrant of the city you should attend and offer testimony on the needs of your community and the
role your organization plays.

We're gearing up for a citywide effort to promote Community
Technology as the path to Economic Opportunity and Civic Empowerment.
Our time is now.
We want you to become an active player in this effort. We are
looking to convene community meetings in all 77 Chicago community areas.
The first part of our campaign is to promote the model of a
Community Benefits Agreement as a part of the City Wireless Plan. Join
us on Thursday.

Friday Evening the monthly informal Media/Technology discussion will be
held at Cosi, 116 S. Michigan Ave at 7:30 PM
Everyone is invited as we discuss Media & Technology, Policy and Action.
Even if you can't make this meeting, think about what you or your
organization will do to celebrate how the Internet has changed our lives.
The first "One Web Day" is September 22: www.onewebday.org.
Only 11 days to go!

Thank you,
