Hello Folks,

Today I'll be administering some u-lock justice.

@ 7:00 AM I'll be locking myself to the bucket of a piece of de-construction equipment.

The only brick building on my block, the anchor of S. Canalport is scheduled to be torn down.

On Tuesday, the demo crew tore down a 3 story coach house.

I stood in front of the bulldozer until the cops asked me to leave.

After that, I spent 1/2 the day curled up on the couch in sorrow.

On wednesday the demo crew did nothing.

Today, I intend to prevent the demo crew from destroying a building that was built in 1892.

The building is an orange flagged building, meaning that it is of significant architectural heritage.


This building is the anchor of the block; once it's gone the only thing that is left is yuppie valhalla.

For some odd reason, the required 90 day public notice was not provided.

In fact, the demo permit was released prior to any public notice.

Preservation Chicago stepped in, but couldn't hold back the tide for lack of neighborhood support. Who knew?

In theory, the cavalry will show up @ 10 AM, but I'm not sure.


As of this posting, I have 1 friend in support @ the early hour. It's sad that my neighbors don't really care.

It reminds me of a certain Catholic priest in early 1940's Germany.

I'm asking for anyone to lend support in any way they can (Prayers do help).
