Join us for a special meeting to remember the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed the shores of Louisiana and Mississippi and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. There will be a report, political discussion, a film screening and more.
Report: Racism and the Ongoing Crimes of the Government
One year after Katrina, little has been done to rebuild New Orleans and the rest of the Louisiana and Mississippi coast. More than half of New Orleans' population still hasn't been able to return; many never will. Most of the evacuees are African American. Wall Street, banks and big corporations, along with their managers in Washington, are to blame for the magnitude of this catastrophe. It was fueled by racism and the neglect was caused by the search for ever-expanding profits. Hear a political analysis of the reasons behind the Katrina disaster and how we can continue to fight back.
Movie: "Heroes Not Looters," a Short Documentary on Katrina
We'll also screen a short film of interviews of New Orleans residents in the days following Hurricane Katrina. The film was produced by ANSWER organizer and award-winning filmmaker, Gloria La Riva.
