The Bombing of Hiroshima
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Near the anniversary of the US bombing of Hiroshima speaker Karla Vescovi will discuss the justification and effects of the bombing and how Japan has moved forward since. Vescovi will explain the damage caused by the atomic bomb including "atomic bomb disease" and the environmental destruction, as well as share how the Japanese people have continued on their road to recovery which includes the construction of the Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and Hiroshima's other projects to promote peace. Event hosted by the Will County Green Party.

Karla Vescovi graduated from UIUC with a concentration in Asian studies and also has obtained masters degrees in Education Administration as well as in Education and Social Policy. She lived in Japan for two years and returns to Japan frequently; she now teaches Japanese in the Chicago
suburbs. Vescovi has served on the Illinois State Board of Education Content Advisory Committee for the Japanese Certification Test and is currently the Vice President of the Illinois Association of Teachers of Japanese. She will serve on the Executive Board of the National Council of Japanese Language Teachers in fall of 2006.
