Report on today's demo opposing the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Gaza, Lebanon and the Occupation
On short notice a good 50 protesters showed up outside a synagogue at 4500 Dempster in Skokie where a pro-Israeli rally was scheduled.
Only a few hundred came to the pro-Israeli rally, and a number of them didn't stay at the rally as they felt the need to leave for the street to heckle the counter-protesters.
But we made our points, and even a few of those coming to the rally took leaflets or, in discussion, conceded an argument or two.
The Establishment has really filled their heads with bogus history and arguments based on emotion, not legality and justice.
The police were their usual selves as they pushed us away from our sidewalk position in front of the synagogue. They agreed that we had the right to use the sidewalk, but said they wanted to avoid conflict. They agreed that we had the right to discussion and debate, but said that at a certain level debate is assault!
The counter-protest was able to get a few key points covered on channels 9 and 7. I didn't get to see 2,5, or 32. On 7, Hatem Abudayyeh was able to make the point that U.S. tax money is supporting Israel's attacks, which a state representative at the rally agreed was the case. On 9 we were able to make the point that Israel's attacks are illegal and unjust, and that it is not anti-Jewish to condemn the state of Israel. -- Neal Resnikoff
