FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SHIRTSFORSEALS.COM LAUNCHES WEBSITE TO SAVE BABY SEALS!

OMAHA (June 2, 2006)– Shirtsforseals is kicking off its website to raise funds its international efforts to end Canada’s annual seal hunt.

“Canada’s commercial seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on earth and is basic Draconian cruelty,” said Marie Schwartz, Shirtsforseals.com founder. “Each year, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are clubbed and shot to death, and many are even skinned alive.” A panel of international veterinarians who studied the commercial seal hunt concluded up to 42 percent of the seals they examined were likely skinned alive while conscious.
There are several varieties of shirts and a baseball cap is also available. New designs will be added over time. Shirts will also be sold at The Reading Grounds in Omaha as well as at local outreach events. The website was designed by the leading-edge local firm Rebel Interactive.
Polling shows the majority of Canadians, Americans, and Europeans want the commercial seal hunt ended for good, and seafood consumers and vendors around the world are taking action by way of a boycott of Canadian seafood. Ms. Schwartz noted that the volunteer team in Omaha is one of the strongest and most respected in the country. For more information and to help, visit www.shirtsforseals.com.
