Protest Against West Side Police Shooting -- 12 Noon Today
Police accountability activist Rev. Paul Jakes, Jr. will lead a march at 12 noon today to protest the May 16th police shooting of 25-year-old Jovan (Woo) Walker, a West Side resident.
The march will begin at the site of Walker's massive funeral, True Vine Baptist Church, 901 N. Springfield, Chicago, which was presided over by Rev. Jakes.
Numerous civilian eyewitnesses disputed the official police department account of Walker's shooting, directly contradicting police claims that he was armed. Several witnesses say they saw police shoot Walker in the back.
Having no confidence in the trustworthiness of the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County States Attorney's Office, community activists are demanding an independent investigation of Walker's killing and, if the facts warrant it, immediate criminal prosecution of the officers involved in the shooting and cover-up, plus their firing by the Department.
