UPCOMING EVENTS
May 31 - June 28, 7-9pm
Event: Workshop Series on "Tools for Social Change, Direct from the Conflict Unraveled Toolkit"
Ever notice that the results we see from our social activism are predictable? Is it possible that if we had more tools, options
and better ways to get things done we might be better able to realize our goals? Developed at Northwestern University and the
University of Chicago, the Conflict Unraveled Toolkit uses original and little-known material drawn from research labs,
chimpanzee troops, and nearly lost techniques from the great tacticians of the civil rights era. In this series, sponsored by
Wellington Avenue UCC and led by Andra Media, author of Conflict Unraveled, you will learn (with fun and humor) to:
May 31: Keep a clear head even under great stress and steady provocation
June 5: Make sense of bewildering situations
June 12: Spark conversations that deliver results
June 14: Break out of exhausting, no-win situations and prevent burn-out
June 28: Win by building on individual strengths, common interests and mutual objectives
Suggested donation for the series is $25, but no one will be turned away.

Event: Speech by Rich Meyer, Christian Peacemaker, Friend of Slain Activist Tom Fox
Christian Peacemaker Teams (
www.cpt.org) grew out of an initiative by Mennonite, Church of the Brethren, and Friends Meetings
congregations to reduce violence around the world by placing small teams trained in nonviolent intervention in situations of lethal
intergroup conflict. Mr. Meyer is the support staff coordinator for teams operating in the occupied southern West Bank of
Palestine, has led four learning/action delegations there, and coordinates the "Campaign for Secure Dwellings", an initiative to
end the demolition of Palestinian homes. Mr. Meyer will utilize the lectionary texts for Pentecost Sunday to consider how the
teaching of scripture and the presence of the Holy Spirit may enable us to engage those who consider us to be enemies in a
non-violent manner. He will teach at the 9 am hour, and preach at the 10:30 am worship service.

Wednesday, June 7, 7pm
Event: Conscientious Projector presents "Unconstitutional: The War on Our Civil Liberties"
The fall of 2001 brought us assaults against Americans' comfort zone on many fronts. We learned that we could fall victim to
attacks on US soil and we learned that those guarantees provided to us in the Constitution were equally vulnerable. In this film
you'll get the real story behind the US PATRIOT Act and other administration policies and the gut wrenching stories behind those
affected - from law-abiding store clerks to United States Olympians unable to travel. You will be reminded what America used to
stand for and what it seems we're falling for now. In short, this one-hour film will affirm why you're angry and give you a tool
to help others join your ranks. FREE!

June 8-10, 7:30 pm
Event: Presentation of "Marx in Soho"
In this play by Howard Zinn, with Jerry Levy, who portrays the return of Marx roughly a century after his death, the audience is
given a rare glimpse of the Marx seldom seen: Marx the scholar, the immigrant, the family man. Zinn casts a divergent light from
the totalitarian movements with which Marx's theories have long been associated. In a poignant, whimsical and intimate narrative,
Zinn humanizes Marx "the man" and convinces us not only that Marx is not dead, but that his critique of capitalism remains relevant
today.
The production of "Marx in Soho" will benefit the Near NorthWest Arts Council, a wonderful arts nexus, empowering culture and
social action in Chicago. Tickets are $10, $8 for students and seniors.
Location: Acme Art Works, 1741 N Western, Chicago, Illinois (just two blocks south of CTA Blue line, one block north of North Ave)

Event: International Day of Action against Caterpillar
Caterpillar equipment is used by Israeli Occupation Forces to destroy roads, orchards, greenhouses, agricultural land and the homes
of more than 50,000 Palestinians. Dozens have died such as Nabila al-Shu'bi, who was 7 months pregnant when she along with 7
family members died in a home demolition. Rachel Corrie, a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement, was crushed to
death under a Caterpillar D 9 bulldozer on March 16, 2003, as she attempted to stop an illegal home demolition in Rafah, Gaza.
While U.S. taxpayers foot the bill, Caterpillar profits from this illegal destruction.
At Caterpillar's 2005 shareholder meeting, the Board of Directors successfully urged the defeat of a resolution calling on CAT to
investigate whether it was adhering to its own corporate code of conduct with regard to its sales to Israel. After calls from human
rights organizations, members of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, religious and social justice
organizations and the victims themselves, CAT has the responsibility to investigate the ethics of selling bulldozers as weapons and
profiting from human rights abuses. On Wednesday, June 14, 2006, Caterpillar shareholders will meet again in Chicago. Please join
our action outside the shareholder meeting that day to oppose Caterpillar's sale of bulldozers to Israel! Let's send the Board of
Directors and CAT dealerships a strong message that complicity in human rights abuses will not be tolerated.

The Peace Museum is working on an endeavor "PEACE 2005". ?The museum will be offering patrons the opportunity to donate a peace
crane to honor a friend, loved one or colleague. Peace cranes will be suspended from the ceiling in our gallery, creating a
colorful wall. The 1000 colorful cranes will create a "wall of hope" for peace in 2005 in our gallery. Once we accumulate 1000
paper cranes, we will send the cranes to a hospital in Iraq. This will be a symbolic gesture to the Iraqi people to demonstrate
that we share in their wish for peace. Peace cranes may be purchased online by visiting
