URGENT: Police Shooting, Observers Needed

Community activists report that Chicago police have shot and killed a 22-year-old youth tonight at 1051 N. Monticello. The young man was reportedly walking away from the police when they shot him five times in the back. The corporate news is on the scene, but activists are urging concerned people to go to the scene to serve as observers and discourage a potential police coverup. The number of neighbors and concerned residents on the scene is growing, and police have reportedly been extremely abusive towards neighbors.

Person Reportedly Shot By Police Officer

(STNG) CHICAGO Police and fire personnel responded Tuesday night to a report of a person shot by a police officer in the West Town neighborhood.

Paramedics took a person who had reportedly been shot by a police officer about 8:15 p.m. on the 1100 block of North Monticello Avenue to Mount Sinai Hospital, Fire Media Director Larry Langford said.

Langford said there had been "some sort of disturbance there," but he did not know the nature of the disturbance and had no details on the shooting. He had no additional information on the person shot.

Police News Affairs Officer Kristina Schuler said News Affairs Deputy Director Pat Camden was on his way to that location Tuesday night, but she had no information about what had happened there.
