Chicago, IL: On Wednesday, January 9 at 11:30 AM, Chicagoans will rally outside the Argentine Consulate, located at 205 N. Michigan Ave., to support Argentinians who have mobilized in mass demonstrations in recent weeks to oppose government policy that has impoverished the vast majority of the populace. Local protesters will bang on pots and pans -- in the protest tradition of the CAZEROLADA -- to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Argentina.

The Wednesday action is organized around the following demands and points of unity:

* Opposition to the International Monetary Fund, neoliberalism and capitalism;
* Solidarity with the people of Argentina;
* Justice for argentinian protesters killed by authorities;
* An end to the killing of civilians and government opponents;
* The release of all prisoners.

Since mid-December, thousands of Argentines have taken the streets to protest the economic crisis in their country, indicting the Argentine government for its complicity with the IMF and United States policies of neo-liberalism, and demanding that the government step down. With Wednesday’s action, Chicagoans will demonstrate their support for the Argentine people’s demands, and their right to self-determination.
