I remember when Americans did "Mexican" jobs
In light of "A Day without an immigrant" I recall when Americans did agriculture work, and a place outside Chicago where Americans mow their OWN lawns, wash their OWN cars, and patch their OWN roofs.
When I was younger I lived in a farming town, and during the summer the kids would go detassle corn. It was good because kids could do it, they earned their own money and learned about how money was earned, and it kept them off the street. Then one year the kids said they weren't detassling corn because "All the Mexicans were doing it." That summer kids had to rely on their parents for more money, which puts a strain on them, and they ran the streets doing god knows what. I think about that every time someone mentions the agricutural work "Americans won't do." Why do you think kids have a summer break between june and August? It's because in the old days they used to help with the farm work. Even today they would if illegals hadn't taken those jobs. So what if it might have driven down wages $5.15 to $5 or $4.50. Can you afford to pay 60 cents for corn instead of 50 cents?
Out there is still a lot different than here. High school kids are working fast food jobs, because that's the group that SHOULD hold unskilled jobs. They're not relying on illegals to do all the unskilled work. They either do it themselves or have an American do it. The unemployment rate is lower, especially for blacks and young people. The local economy isn't being drained by illegals making money and sending it back to their home country. The schools aren't strained by illegal children who don't know English. The hospitals aren't strained as much by illegals who don't know English and don't have health insurence.
So if you really want to live in a world without an immigrant, go out to towns like those, and see how much better it is.
